| NOTA: Jim McClarin 2015-4-20yanaCONK_1166c Erotylid beetles (AKA "Pleasing Fungus Beetles") eclosing from their pupae, hung like Christmas stockings from the underside of a medium-sized, old-looking conk fungus, Cosanga, Napo, Ecuador, ~2,100 meters elevation. I had never seen erotylid pupae and had often wondered how and where they pupate. At least in the sub-group this species is in the larvae attach their tail-ends to a sheltered surface, hang down, pupate inside their larval skins, and later emerge as adult beetles. I collected the beetles so I could take some "studio shots" and try to get an identification. They should be fully colored and hardened by now. Fotografía tomada en abril 20, 2015 |
